A Land of Surprises
Some Good, others not so.

Located some 36 miles off the coast from my home town of Whakatane, White Island would often give signs of eruption, some greater than others.
Early attempts to mine Sulphur were met with defeat and often death.
Whakaari or White Island is linked by fault line running along the valley/hill line at Whakatane and the line connects Mt Edgecombe and Mt Tongariro.
I would often hear an earthquake coming, just before the sharp jolt. Yes New Zealand is called the “Shaky Isles” for good reason.
More information concerning the latest eruption and the rescue efforts can be got from Wikipaedia
